NicholasMarkets’ School Lunch Program was a way for a New Jersey super market to create a local school lunch program in the North New Jersey area. Using WordPress as the site framework, and custom coding the very popular Shopp plugin, I created a way for NicholasMarkets to service multiple schools with many teachers / grades / classrooms; and for parents to create multiple children assigned to these classrooms, even across schools.
The system itself is very interesting; though I’m using the basics of the Shopp plugin, I’m creating custom databases so that reports can be run against the data in multiple ways — so that NicholasMarkets can run a kitchen report, listing which lunches are to be made (ie ’30 chicken noodle soups’), delivery reports (which schools do these soups get delivered) and student reports.
Each school can and does have it’s own holiday, each school can have their own lunch prices, and the system even tracks which school gets a commission against the lunch.
